I am especially drawn towards apparently deserted places, devoid of meaning or possessing a meaning that has to be unraveled through remembering, through conjuring up the past. Such spaces are not uncommon in the contemporary Romanian landscape and more often than not they invite curiosity or a strange kind of nostalgia. The photographs do not showcase any elements that can anchor meaning in any straightforward manner nor do they capture actions that can afford a similar semantic reassurance. They were designed in opposition to a type of photography that relies for its effect on a sensational subject, and equally in contrast to images that commit to a particular aesthetic. At times, the photographed places demand a sequential reading. The photographs in this series are to be printed on a type of paper resembling the newsprint as closely as possible.
